UCL’s CDT in Medical Imaging now accepting applications

Entry to MRes and PhD in Medical Imaging at UCL's EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training

The EPSRC CDT in Medical Imaging accepts applications from those who wish to receive a funded scholarship, those whom already have a funded scholarship from another source and those whom are self-paying. Information about the funding available is given below for guidance only. For your eligibility to be assessed, you must complete an application to UCL.

In all cases, our Entry Requirements below must be met in order for your application to be considered by the board.

Please ensure you have read the following details before you make your application

Required Qualifications

  • Have achieved (or are predicted) a first class or upper second class honours undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualifications or experience). An MSc is also preferred, though not essential.
  • Our preferred subject areas are Physical Sciences (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics). Applicants with degrees in Chemistry or Life Sciences are welcome but applicants must be able to demonstrate strong mathematical skills.
  • Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in medical imaging.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English by UCL. Further details can be found on the following UCL web page
    If you meet these requirements you can apply through one of the approved routes as outlined below.

Funding

The EPSRC CDT in Medical Imaging accepts applications from:

  • Those who wish to receive a funded scholarship
  • Those whom already have a funded scholarship from another source
  • Self-paying applicants (proof of funds will be required during the application process)
    Please note that the EPSRC funding available supports Home/EU students with standard research council restrictions. EU students are only eligible for a full studentship if they have lived, worked or studied within the UK for 3 years prior to the funding commencing. More information can be found on the EPSRC website.

EU applicants who do not fall into the above residency category are encouraged to view the Named Projects available on this website. PhD programmes available with a named projects. are more likely to be open to EU applicants, however please do still check the criteria within the adverts. Available named projects are advertised here

EU applicants can also be considered for a Graduate Research Scholarship

UCL Graduate Research Scholarships aim to attract high-quality students to undertake research at UCL.

Up to 20 UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) are available annually to prospective and current UCL research students from any country.

Please make an application as normal to the programme. If you are considered a suitable candidate for a GRS nomination we will contact you to discuss this.

International students (Overseas Fee Payers):

Overseas Research Scholarships
UCL offers a number of Overseas Research Scholarships each year. If you would like to be considered for an overseas scholarship please do the following:

1. Submit an application
2. Email “cdtadmin@ucl.ac.uk” :/cdtadmin@ucl.ac.uk with your application number stating that you would like to be considered for the Overseas Research Scholarship.

You will be contacted if we feel you would be a suitable nominee and possible projects will be discussed following selection.

You do not need to submit a project proposal to us at this stage.

Please Note: The ORS process is not yet open for 18.19 entry but we will accept expressions of interest from October 16th 2017

Please note that the application process for the Overseas Research Scholarships and Graduate Research Scholarships are extremely competitive

How to Apply

MRes + PhD Funded CDT Open Studentships

If you are applying for the MRes + PhD please select code: TMRMEISING01

This route means that you will be applying for the 4 year programme, including 1 year MRes and progressing to 3 Years of MPhil/PhD. In the first term you will be allocated a project from the pool of available projects. You will be required to select 5 projects in order of preference at the start of term.

Please visit our list of Current Projects to see the current catalogue. The project list will be updated before the start of each term.

What’s provided?
  • Fees: UK/EU fees for 3 or 4 years depending on project
  • Stipend: £16,851 per annum tax free for 3 or 4 years depending on project
  • Project related consumable and travel funds.

Applications are considered all year round – however early application is encouraged.

APPLICATIONS FOR ADVERTISED PROJECTS

If you are responding to an advertised post with a named project please specify the supervisors name in your application and add the name of project as a title on your personal statement
